History of Family Eye Center, Willmar

  • 1956 - Dr. Robert Gustafson opened an optometric clinic in the Corneil-Elkjer building downtown Willmar.
  • 1974 - Dr. Dwane Gustafson began working with his father.
  • 1986 - Practice moved to new location on Willmar Avenue (behind Slumberland Furniture).
  • 1989 - Dr. Randy Norris joined Willmar practice while working in Paynesville with other O.D.’s from Litchfield.
  • 1990 - Dr. Gustafson and Dr. Norris purchased the Paynesville practice and formed a partnership between the Willmar and Paynesville clinics.
  • 1991 - Dr.’s move from Willmar Avenue to 812 South First Street location.
  • 1992 - Dr. Mike Nagel joined the and brought with him the Olivia office formerly owned by Dr. B.J. Davidson.
  • 1999 - Dr. Mike Novak brought over his practice, Willmar Eye Center, to join Family Eye Center.
  • 2002 - Family Eye Center’s doctors merged with Dr. Jeffrey Fischer and his LASIK practice in Minneapolis and formed Fischer Laser Eye LLC.
  • 2004 - Construction of new 31,000 square foot clinic and surgery center begins.
  • 2005 - Fischer Laser Eye and Janning ENT opened for service in August. 
  • 2006 - Family Surgery Center opened, Choices opened.
  • 2007 - New London and Litchfield offices opened; Dr. Carol Main, Dr. Mike Main, and Dr. Tom Lenz  joined Family Eye Center.
