LASIK SURGERY
LASIK, or LASer In-SItu Keratomileusis, is a laser vision correction procedure that has been preformed on millions of people around the world. It is a precise method of gently reshaping the cornea and is unique in that the laser portion of the procedure takes place beneath the surface of the cornea.LASIK can treat nearsightedness or farsightedness, with or without astigmatism.
The first step is to schedule an appointment for a consultation. This appointment is free and will last approximately one hour. During this time we will perform testing to determine your candidacy for LASIK surgery. We will also discuss your expectations, risks, and any questions you may have.Your eyes will be dilated during this appointment. The dilation will make you light sensitive and your near vision may be blurry. The dilation can last 24-36 hours.
We want you to have the best possible results from your LASIK surgery. In order for this to be possible we need to have your eyes in their most natural shape prior to your consultation and surgery.Due to the fact that contact lenses change the shape of your cornea, you must discontinue wearing your contact lenses. The schedule below tells you how long to be out of your contact lenses prior to your consultation and surgery.
LASIK surgery is done by creating a very thin flap in the cornea with a Microkeratome.Your eyes will be numbed with an eye drop anesthesia. You will remain awake and comfortable throughout the procedure.Once the flap is created and folded over, Dr. Fischer positions the laser over the eye, directing light pulses to achieve the desired correction. You will be asked to look at a target light while the laser reshapes your cornea. The flap is then carefully put back in its original position. You will be given additional eye drops and post operative instructions. You will need someone to drive you home.Once home we want you to take a nap for 2-4 hours.

There is little discomfort or recovery time. You are restricted from touching your eyes or wearing make-up for 1 week following surgery. Even though results are immediate, your vision will fluctuate for a few months following your procedure. Most people can return to work the day following surgery.
